Random background noise

Single pixel noise randomly distributed in the whole image with a Gaussian probability density function for given mean value and root-mean-square (rms) intensity.

Low frequency background noise

With given intensity (A) and wave length in X (lx) and Y (ly) direction, the low frequency background noise is simulated as

Using background image: When checked, the image saved in buffer “Vortex/boundary mask” will be superimposed to the simulated PIV image as background noise instead of that generated with above equations. 

Brownian motion

The Brownian motion of the particle images has a Gaussian probability density function; a root-mean-square (rms) value can be given to determine the intensity.
