9. Synthetic stereo PIV recording group   

Edpiv pE 2013 simulatiom example

PART I: Create synthetic PIV recording group 

- Execute edpiv.exe to open EDPIV start window;

- Select menu “File \ New image” ;

- Input new image size as: Width=1024, Height=1024, and press “OK” button;

- Select menu “Edit \ Scale & time” to open dialogue box “Imaging scale/time interval”;

- Select radio button “mm”;

- Set field of view as: X0=0, Y0=0, X1=100, Y0=100;

- Press “OK”  button to close the dialogue box; 

- Press button “Processing” to open to open “Image processing” window;

- Select menu “Tools \ Simulation settings \ Flow” to open dialogue box “PIV recording simulation settings”;

- Select radio button “Periodical” in section “I:Periodical/4-roll-mill/shear/pipe” and set parameters as
Wavelength [pix]: X=512, Y=512, Z=512
Amplitude [pix%]: Ax=500, Ay=500, Az=500

- Set “Rotation angle” in section “II: Solid body rotation & potential flow”  to 0

- Set “III: Uniform flow velocity” as X= 0, Y= 0, Z=0

- Press “OK” to close dialogue box “PIV recording simulation settings”;

- Select menu “Tools \ Simulation settings \ Particle” to open dialogue box “Particle image simulation” ;

- Setup parameters as
Number/(32x32 pix) : 10
Max. diameter [pix] : 5
Min. diameter [pix] : 2
Max brightness : 250
Min. brightness : 127
Extended view (%) : 5
Ry/Rx : 1
Orientation : 0
Particle mode : Quik
PTV : not checked;

- Press “OK” to close dialogue box “Particle image simulation” ;

- Select menu “Tools \ Simulation settings \ Noise” to open dialogue box “Image noise simulation”;

- Setup parameters as
Random background noise - Intensity: 10
Random background noise - Mean value: 60
Brownian motion - Intensity : 0
Low frequency background noise - Intensity : 0

- Close dialogue box “Image noise simulation”;

- Select menu “Tools \ Simulation settings \ Stereo” to open dialogue box “Stereo PIV system setup [deg, mm]”;

- Set parameters as
Camera: A
Camera focus length: f=60 (A)
Objective distance: H=430 (A)
View angle: XZ=30 (A)
View angle: YZ=5 (A)
Z-displacement: 0 [mm]

- Press OK” to close dialogue box “Stereo PIV system setup [deg, mm]”;

- Select menu “Tools \ Group of pairs”

- Answer “Yes” to question “Do you really want to simulate a group PIV recording pairs?”

- Set number of frames to 20 in dialogue box “PIV recording simulation”;

- Press “OK”  to close dialogue box “PIV recording simulation” - dialogue box “Export windows bitmap” appears;

- Browse hard disks to find a desired folder;

- Input “A” in edit box “File name” and press “Save” button;

- Wait until all the images are created and saved in the selected folder;

- Select menu “Tools \ Simulation settings \ Stereo” to open dialogue box “Stereo PIV system setup [deg, mm]”;

- Set parameters as
Camera: B
Camera focus length: f=60 (B)
Objective distance: H=320 (B)
View angle: XZ=-50 (B)
View angle: YZ=-5 (B)
Z-displacement: 0 [mm]

- Press OK” to close dialogue box “Stereo PIV system setup [deg, mm]”;

- Select menu “Tools \ Group of pairs”

- Answer “Yes” to question “Do you really want to simulate a group PIV recording pairs?”

- Set number of frames to 20 in dialogue box “PIV recording simulation”;

- Press “OK”  to close dialogue box “PIV recording simulation” - dialogue box “Export windows bitmap” appears;

- Browse hard disks to find a desired folder;

- Input “B” in edit box “File name” and press “Save” button;

- Wait until all the images are created and saved;

- Close EDPIV software.
